Kyiv hosted Ukrainian Cossack Fight Championship at NPU Sports Center on October 12-14. Nearly 600 fighters from all across Ukraine competed in the event. PJSC UMCC sponsored four fighters from Vilnohirsk, who competed in the event as a part of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast team. The fighters brought to their native town 3 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.
Valeriya Khudyakova, Denys Tolkachov, Yakiv Khoprov and Nazar Yevtushenko are well-known names in our town thanks to their hard work, good trainer and support of their parents. But, most importantly, the younger kickboxers have the opportunity to compete not only in local, but also national and international events thanks to the support of the company. This requires substantial sponsor support and PJSC UMCC fully provides it.
As a reminder, the company has been the official sponsor of Vilnohirsk kickboxers since January 2018. Over this period, they won 13 gold (including World and European championship winners), 8 silver and 10 bronze medals at the national championships, European and world championships. That is not taking into account oblast and regional events, where it is difficult to count their victories.
As we previously reported, Valeriya Khudyakova, Denys Tolkachov, Yakiv Khoprov and Nazar Yevtushenko passed the selection at the oblast competitions and made it to the team of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast to compete in the Ukrainian Cossack Fight Championship.
Until other types of martial arts, this one has a Ukrainian national foundation. The championships in this sport are always dedicated to the heroes of the Heavenly Hundred, and this year the date of the competition coincided with the Day of Defender of Ukraine, which has become very symbolic.
At the opening ceremony, Volodymyr Radionov, President of the Ukrainian National Sports Association, Merited Trainer of Ukraine, congratulated everybody on the holiday and the opening of the championship. In his address, he emphasized that the objective of development of the Cossack fight in Ukraine is bringing up a strong nation. “Children are our future and every young fighters, young Cossack is always ready to defend their honor, health, loved ones and, of course, their Motherland!”
There are two main categories in the Cossack fight: light – fight and tough – Gerts. If you draw a parallel with kickboxing, fight-1 and gerts-1 is similar to Light Contact and Full Contact, fight-2 and gerts-2-K1, light and tough versions respectively, while fight-3 and gerts-3 is full MMA. Our kickboxers fought in fight-1, fight-2 and gerts-1 categories.
On the first day of competition Denys Tolkachov fought twice in category Gerts-2 in the Octagon (a specialized ring of the Ukrainian Cossack Fighting Federation). The first fight had just begun, and in the first seconds our fighter delivered an accurate blow to the opponent, and sent him into the knockout. In the final fight, Denis’s rival completely withdrew from the event upon seeing how the previous fight of Tolkachov ended. Therefore, our team won the first gold medal already on the first day.
Later, Valeriya Khudyakov has some tough fights in fight-1 against strong opponents. Nonetheless, Valeriya excelled and won the gold medal in Fight-1.
On the following day, Yakiv Khoprov started with the fights. In the semifinal of Fight-2 category, the opponents ended the fight in a draw and the judges appointed an extra round, in which, unfortunately, Yakiv fell just short of victory, winning gold in the end. In Fight-1, Khoprov also won bronze medal.
Nazar Yevtushenko had a rather stiff competition in his age category in Fight-1 and to win the silver medal he had to fight a series of fights, almost in a row with short breaks. He did not have much time to rest and recover, which affected his performance in the final bout.
Repeating the success of the previous day of the competitions, Denys Tolkachov won another gold with a KO in Fight-1, while Valeriya Khudyakova won silver in her age category.
Overall, the fighters brought to their native town 3 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.
“Young athletes, your victories are our victories! You inspire us to work more effectively, while our support, as practice has shown, inspires you to new achievements. We are proud of your results and will continue to support you,” stated Oleksandr Gladushko, Acting Chairman of the Board of PJSC UMCC.
Now, the young fighters will continue to train and prepare for the world and international events, which will take place in December, in Kharkiv. All four athletes will fight for the highest awards and world champion titles.
