Sixty drivers will pass the training for driving the new Bell articulated dump trucks by June 1. The vehicles will begin operating in the open pit mine starting next month.
On May 22, two more Bell articulated dump trucks from South Africa arrived at Vilnohirsk. Now, Vilnohirsk Mining and Metallurgical Plant, a subsidiary of PJSC United Mining and Chemical Company, has six of them.
On the same day, theoretical and practical training for driving the new vehicles began at the subsidiary. It is held by the representatives of the maintenance service of BELL and will continue until June 1.
Instructor of the maintenance service of the company that supplied the dump trucks Oleksandr Dmytrenko informed that during the theoretical part of the training, the drivers will learn the mechanism of the vehicles, its functions and possibilities. The drivers are also trained to use the devices inside the driver’s compartment. The practical part of the training takes place in the open pit mine, behind the wheel of the dump truck.
Instructor Dmytrenko says Bell articulated dump truck is a smart vehicle. It has a high degree of protection against overturning when dumping the load, and against overheating of the engine. “As soon as the driver makes a mistake, the alarm goes off in the operator’s cabin. It notifies the driver that he has to change the position of the vehicle or needs to stop its work,” says the instructor.
Oleksandr Gladushko, Acting Chairman of the Board of PJSC UMCC, appearance of Bell at one of the company’s enterprises is a breakthrough. “For our drivers it means improvement of professional skills and for the production – improvement of indicators for transportation of the rock and titanium ore,” he says.
The drivers, who held the wheel of Bell dump truck, instantly felt the advantages of the new vehicle. “It’s like switching from Zhyguli (Soviet car) to Mercedes,” says BeLAZ driver Viktor Lysak. He says the electronic control system substantially distinguishes this vehicle from BelAZ he works on. “It’s a modern vehicle. There are some peculiarities in terms of driving and controlling it, but we will get used to it,” he says, sharing his impressions.
Other drivers pointed to the easiness in steering the new dump truck. “The impressions that cannot be compared to driving BelAZ compared to BELL. Everything goes easy. Fairly easy to control and drive. Comfortable cabin contributes to the desire to work on this car,” says Dmytro Movchan, the driver transporting rock mass.
On June 2, after the training is completed, the dump trucks are expected to begin their full operation in the open pit mine.
As a reminder, in 2017-2018, the transport pool of the subsidiary was significantly replenished with new equipment, including cars, vehicles for working in the open pit mines and transporting cargos. More specifically, the subsidiary received five new modern BelAZ trucks, eight Hyudai, JBC loaders and loaders of other manufacturers, Duster cars, and two GAZel. Also 18 BelAZ trucks are under major repairs.
According to the plan, VMMP will purchase the total of 10 Bell articulated dump trucks for the total of UAH 190 million.
