Vilnohirsk is implementing energy efficiency programs
20.03.2019Energy costs account for a large part of the cost of production at the Vilnohirsk Mining and Metallurgical Plant, a subsidiary of JSC UMCC. In order to reduce these costs, the management of the subsidiary is implementing different energy efficiency programs. One of them is already being implemented and has brought good results.
The program involves replacement of the lamps with LED bulbs, which consume less power than fluorescent lamps, while their service life is many times longer than the service life of both incandescent and fluorescent lamps.
In 2018, the departments of VMMP subsidiary together with the provisions department carried out significant work on the transfer of the plant's facilities to LED lighting. These works were planned annually, but an impressive amount of lighting equipment was purchased last year. “About 980 LED lamps for various applications and capacities were purchased,” says Serhiy Dukhanin, Chief Power Engineer of VMMP. “The cost amounted to about UAH 1.5 million.
According to the calculations of the specialists of the subsidiary and chief power engineer services, the annual economic effect of the replacement of the lamp will be around UAH 1.1 million from reduction of power consumption alone. This means that the period of the return of investment is around 17 months. “At that, we also get better lighting of workplaces and routes of movement of personnel and transport,” claims Serhiy Dukhanin. “In addition, this also substantially reduces the costs for purchase and replacement of lamps, and also recycling of mercury lamps that are no longer operational.”
According to him, the main replacement of the lighting equipment was performed at the mining and transport production (MTP) and processing production (PP), power building and administrative building.
In particular, at the power building, 120 street lighting fixtures were replaced with a capacity of 100 watts, which were installed instead of 125, 250, 400 Watt lamps.
At the MTP and PP, 450 lamps of industrial lighting with the capacity of 34 and 60 Watt (instead of 80 and 160 Watt) were replaced, as well as 100 projectors with the capacity of 100 and 200 Watt, which were installed instead of 125, 250 and 400 Watt projectors.
Energy efficiency of the administrative building has also been increased – 280 lamps with the capacity of 40 Watt instead of 72 Watt lamps were installed.
“The first street lighting lights were installed in the end of last year and the projectors received in February 2019 are installed on the excavators,” informed the chief power engineer of VMMP.
Vilnohirsk plant plans to continue the work in 2019, as LED lamps provide high quality lighting for any working process and save the resources of the plant.
