IMPP welcomes geologists from Europe


On April 25, 2017, Irshansk Mining and Processing Plant, a subsidiary of PJSC UMCC, hosted a geological excursion that was attended by representatives of geological services and leading geological companies of Europe.
The excursion took place as a part of associate membership of the State Service of Geology and Mineral Resources of Ukraine (Derzhheonadra) in the EuroGeoSurveys (EGS), The Geological Surveys of Europe. EuroGeoSurveys is a not-for-profit organization representing 37 National Geological Surveys and some regional Surveys in Europe with headquarters in Brussels and an overall workforce of over 7,500 experts working in different fields of geological research of subsurface in the interests of society and economy of the European Union.
The visit to IMPP took place upon the request of State R&D Company GeoInform of Ukraine. GeoInform is involved in the work of EGS expert groups, including The EGS Mineral Resources Expert Group (MREG) and holds a plenary meeting and a geological excursion twice a year in different European countries. In April 2017, these two events were held in Ukraine. In particular, geological excursion is to be taken in to Zhytomyr Oblast with visits to the Museum of Decorative and Precious Stones in Khoroshiv and to production facilities of IMPP.
The group of guests included GeoInform’s representatives led by Director Serhiy Prymushko and Director of Center for International Cooperation Borys Malyuk, and also representatives of geological services and organizations of many European countries (Austria, Belgium, Greece, Ireland, Cyprus, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Hungary, Czech Republic and Sweden).
During the excursion on the territory of the UMCC’s subsidiary, the group visited production facilities of the company, specifically mining section of the open pit mine No. 9 and titanium ore primary processing plant. The guests with the help of the plant’s representatives familiarized themselves with the main mining processes, methods of stripping and system of deposit development, recycling water supply and also key technological and processing processes used at the company. They also looked at the method of partial rehabilitation that implies placement of products of processing after enrichment into the processed space of the open pit mine.
The guests positively commented on the organization of the event at IMPP and expressed hope that the visits to the company would become a good tradition in the relations of the organization and state geological services, as the plenary meeting and geological excursions of the MREG take place twice a year in different European countries.
